End Product Page Updated

I have updated the page to stop using averages (which can be very misleading for bacteria populations) and move to the box-plot approach to identify outliers (atypical values). End product is experimental because we do not have a good reference source for what each bacteria produces. We know some of them, but not all. Also, different strains produce different amounts adds to the uncertainty.

After you log on, you will see a new button by each sample:

Click Abnormal End Products

The initial report show only the odd numbers. In the case very below, we have 3 end products that are high.

Clicking on All Values, will show some 100 end products.

For example, I want to see how histamines and hydrogen sulphide changed over time with the ME flare.

Oldest sample (in remission)
A year later (in remission)
On ME Flare start, I had IBS/SIBO symptoms
Several weeks in, IBS/SIBO fading
All IBS and SIBO symptoms disappeared.

Bottom Line

This is experimental. For myself, the end product levels computed for hydrogen sulfide appear to match my symptoms.

The last column is the number of samples that had a value for the end product. The user may have this end product but it is being produced by a bacteria that is not in our database as a producer…. hence experimental.

Suggestions to minimize impact of Drugs and Antibiotics

A friend asked about how to modify their diet to minimize the impact of doxycycline. I had an old page on that but discovered that it was both broken and inconsistent with revisions and new features. I have brought it up to standards.

Process

Step 1: Find the Drug

For a Find on the page (or scroll). All of the trade names should be included.

Step 2: Look at the Impact

Just click on the item above. You will see a new page with LOTS of items often.

At the top of the page, Click on “Correcting for drug Impact”

Step 3: Review The Suggestions

The suggestions are ordered from most to least important factoring in the dozen of bacteria altered above.

You will see the new format of showing links to sources of each. I am attempting to match the search to the country that you are in. For example, if you are in Spain, a link may go to Amazon.es . Other links are to companies that ship world wide, for example: Swanson and CustomProbiotics. If there are NO country matches, then a country flag with a link to a source for that country will be shown. For example above: Bacullus subtilis (single strain) is available from Amazon.de in Germany and also Amazon.es in Spain.

Example: Finland has no Amazon but people in Finland may use Amazon.de. Only you can tell me where you shop, so email that to me at ken/at/lassesen.com and I will add that information.

Handling Multiple Drugs

If you go to any page listing modifiers, you will see checkboxes.

Check all of the items that apply

At the top of the page, there is a Compare Impacts button

This will take you to a page showing the impact of each item

Again, we have a button [Get Suggestions for reversing impact on Microbiome]. Click it and you will be taken to a suggestion page (with actually more options).

New Probiotics in the works

Next generation probiotics in disease amelioration, 2019 indicates that we may see the following in the next years.

Where and when they will be available may get complex. None of these would be grandfathered with the FDA, thus they will be required to produce the same type of evidence that is required for a new living vaccine before they may be sold in the US. Mutaflor, E.Coli Nissle 1917 has been used in Europe for over 100 years and sold over the counter, but cannot be sold in the US because of FDA regulations requiring a massive amount of US based testing to prove that it is safe.

Some may only be available by prescription in some countries.

Mutaflor is sold OTC in Canada and Australia which did not require those loops to be jumped thru.

NOTE: Probiotics for pets (Veterinary) do not require such review — Fido may get them before you do!

Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) Producers

Hydrogen Sulfide levels are often used to diagnosis SIBO. (Hydrogen sulphide in exhaled breath: a potential biomarker for small intestinal bacterial overgrowth in IBS. 2016) Today I saw a naive comment and would like to educate SIBO folks on what is known from actual studies.

“Hydrogen sulfide producing bacteria are gram negative proteobacteria.
